An Interview with a Medical Illustrator

LeslieLeslie Leonard is a Senior Medical Illustrator at Medical Legal Art (a division of Nucleus Medical Media that focuses solely on creating demonstrative evidence for lawyers). She was recently interviewed about her job by Lois Reitzes on Atlanta’s WABE 90.1 FM radio station!

Here’s our favorite exchange from the interview:

Lois: What makes a good medical illustrator, in your opinion?

Leslie: First and foremost is always going to be accuracy; you want it to be correct. And I think in order to draw something, you have to really understand it.

We’ve written before about the importance of medical accuracy. That’s why Nucleus only hires highly-trained medical illustrators who have completed accredited graduate programs (of which there are only 3 in the US). With a combination of artist talent and medical knowledge, Nucleus’ medical illustrators are the best of the best.
